The project for the lowering of the urban stretch of the Sarmiento railway line in Buenos Aires is part of the program of the Argentine Government for the modernization of the urban rail system for passenger transport. This program includes, in addition to the renewal of rolling stock, the upgrade of infrastructure, the improvement of architecture and the upgrade of technological installations to increase safety and reliability.

— Project Description:

The project includes the lowering of the Sarmiento railway line and of 15 stations in the urban and suburban track between Caballito station (at Km 3.8) and Moreno station (at km 36.4). Due to the project magnitude and the considerable costs, the lowering is foreseen to be realized in 3 timely separate steps. All the works will be done under complete operation of the present line and of the railway plants (depot, maintenance, washing, marshaling, etc.) and without occupation of public or private areas (no expropriation is foreseen); consequently the double track, single tube tunnel will be excavated by means of a EPB-TBM with external diameter of 12m, placed parallel to the actual line and connected to it in several points through cutting and ramps. The underground stations are positioned in the same location of the actual surface stations.

Final Design of all civil works, including architectural and structural design, E&M design and ventilation system, and complementary studies; EIA, demand analysis, economic-financial evaluation; Development of the functional project, urban studies, elaboration of studies for the upgrade of junctions with the pre-existent network of infrastructures; Conceptual and Basic Design of the whole railway system.
