The project completes the West highway system of the city of Kuala Lumpur. It is a 5km-long, three-lanes per carriageway tunnel. It was open to traffic in August 2004. The project includes a tunnel, 3 viaducts, 3 crossroads and other connection roads and a toll gate.

— Project Description:

Penchala tunnel is an approximately 710m-long, twin-tube tunnel, located a few kilometers from the famous Petronas towers. The tunnel was excavated full face (140m 2 ) using explosives. Inspections were carried out systematically as the excavation proceeded, in order to validate the geological model and check for any water inflow. The 40cm-thick final concrete lining was not reinforced.
