The hydroelectric projects of Minas-San Francisco and La Unión are located in the south-west of Ecuador in the Provinces of Azuay, Loja and El Oro. The work complex is located downstream of the San Francisco and Jubones rivers confluence. The layout foresees 2 plants in cascade. The water discharged from San Francisco plant is conveyed through a canal-river bridge to the La Unión plant, and then it goes further down the same river.

— Project Description:

The reservoir upstream of the Minas-San Francisco plant has a storage capacity of 14.4 Mm 3 created by a 78m-high RCC dam, and the same capacity is also available to the La Unión plant. The Minas-San Francisco plant layout consists of a 13.9km-long headrace tunnel with a diameter of 4.5m, a 67m-high surge shaft with a diameter of 16m, a 530m-long penstock with a diameter of 3.77m, and an underground power plant for 3 Pelton turbines. Other characteristics of this first power plant are: a discharge flow of 65 m 3 /s; a gross head of 510m, an installed power of 296MW and annual output of 1300GWh/year. Water from Minas is transferred through a canal-bridge downstream the La Unión Power Plant. The layout of this second HPP which consists of a 12.19km-long headrace tunnel with a diameter of 4.8m, a 97m-high surge shaft with a diameter of 15m, a 847m-long penstock with a diameter of 4.8m, an open air power plant for 2 Francis turbines and a tailrace channel. Other characteristics of this plant are: a discharge flow of 65 m 3 /s; a gross head of 170m, an installed power of 94MW and an output of 400GWh/year.

Feasibility Study and Final Design of civil works and E&M equipment, including project area surveys, geotechnical investigation and environmental studies (EIAP and EIAD).
