Period of Activity:

2013 - 2013

Universal Pegasus International is assessing the potential to use tunneling techniques for the installation of a section of the proposed Trans Mountain Expansion Project for Kinder-Morgan in the Vancouver area.

— Project Description:

The work consists of providing Kinder-Morgan with a tunnel to carry two 30 inch diameter welded steel pipes from their existing Tank Farm on “Burnaby Mountain”, approximately 2 km to their Westridge Terminal on Burrard Inlet, in the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area, British Columbia. . The tunnel would pass through a slightly cemented sandstone / conglomerate material, with possible cohesion-less areas, partially under water table. Gas may be detected. A circular cross section (3.4m/11,15ft in. dia.) is the proposed most efficient and safe configuration, allowing for installation of two 30” dia. pipes. Two possible alignments were investigated: • Alt. 1: 2000m long; 6.95% dipping; no curves • Alt. 2: 2180m long; 5.30% dipping; one curve (500 to 1000m radius).
