The project completes the West highway system of the city of Kuala Lumpur. It is a 5km long, three-lane highway per carriageway. It was open to traffic in August 2004. The project includes a tunnel, 3 viaducts, 3 crossroads and other connection roads and a toll gate.

  • Description of the works: Penchala tunnel is located a few kilometers from the famous Petronas towers in Kuala Lumpur, goes beneath a hill covered by dense equatorial vegetation. It is an approximately 710m long, twin tube tunnel. The tunnel was excavated full face(140 m2) using explosives. Inspections were carried out systematically as the excavation fare, in order to validate the geological model and check for any water inrush. The 40cm thick final concrete lining was not reinforced.
