Additional Info

  • Owner: RAV –Raccordo Autostradale della Valle D’Aosta S.p.A.[Highway Connection of Valle D'Aosta Co.]
  • Period of activity: 1988 –1995
  • Description of the works: The new highway alignment does not damage Alpine landscape: in fact, it runs mainly through tunnels, protecting valuable agricultural cultivation and avoiding damage to the flora and fauna. It is the first Italian public work with environmental impact assessment according to CEE standards. Entrances on slopes subject to landslide have required checking the country side, simulating and designing opportune retaining works with various methodologies (cellular walls, geotextile with metal reinforcement and rockfall valleys) which were hard to construct time to time. Very high voltage electric lines, Aosta - Pre St. Didier railway line, hydroelectric power plants in operation, main roads, polulated centers: many constraints conditioned the alignment and required extreme care when using explosives. Avise Tunnel is the longest one of the Highway section and was designed by boring a preventive inspection pilot hole (d=4.50m.)
  • Geodata activity: Geotechnical-geomechanical consultancy and design of the underground works in different batches that the work is subdivided into. In particular, the following: Chabodey Tunnel (960m), Villaret Tunnel (about 2635m), Avise Tunnel(3072m), Laverogne Tunnel (1995m) and Les Cretes Tunnel (1550m).
