SA-RC Highway (443km length) is the only high traffic route which connects Sicily to the other major Italian and European highway networks. Exponential growth in traffic, especially of trucks, and amendments in norms (geometrical characteristics of the road; reinforced and pre-compressed concrete structures; seismic zones) have brought up the need to upgrade the highway urgently, thirty years after it was built, in order to adapt it to European routes.

  • Description of the works: Stretch 1., Section 7: Lot 3 from km 123+800 to km 126+000 Lot 4 from km 126+000 to km 139+000 In this stretch several infrastructures has been built ex novo, or upgraded, or adapted to meet design characteristics: these includes 23 viaducts and bridges, 2 junctions and 7 tunnels Stretch 2 Section 6° from km 286+000 to km 294+600 and Section 7° – from km 294+600 to km 304+200 In this stretch 20 viaducts for a total of 5100 m and 3 double tube and one single tube tunnel for a total of 3800 m has been realized.
