The Corredor Bioceanico Central is the ambitious project of transformation of an old rack rail constructed in 1910 which crosses the Andes, into a modern double track railway line for transport of freights and people.
The line connects the city of Mendoza, in Argentina, to Los Andes in Chile, for a total length of 210 km. It runs through a complex mountain region with extreme gradients for freight transport. For this reason, a base tunnel running on the border for 52,5 km will be realized

  • Description of the works: Construction of a railway line and intermodal terminals mainly for freight trains, which shall connect, in a wider development plan, the port of Valparaiso on the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast, connecting Chile Argentina and the whole Mercosur. The project has a modular structure, ito be implemented in subsequent stages according to traffic needs, which is expected to reach over 70 Mton of freight moved per year
  • Geodata activity: Feasibility study and preliminary design. Geodata has developed the complete design of all works, from complex geological investigation aiming to the definition of the base tunnel position, the alignment study, the definition of all structures, including the base tunnel, the choise and characteristics of the railway system and rolling stocks, and safety plan Design of two complex intermodal terminal located at the ends of the line.
